KPCC has been taking initiatives to mobilize all the under privileged sections of the society under the banner of the congress party with a view to providing them a collective voice that the society under the banner of the congress party with a view to providing them a collective voice that would be heard at all levels of the political establishment. Adivasi Congress was formed on 19th October 2005 as an arm of the congress party. The main aim of the new organization was to identify raise and address issues affecting the adivasi community in the state and in the process of consolidating the congress party’s politiacal base among the weakest and disenfranchised section of our society.
In the past, the Bharatheeya Dalit congress was involved in political work dalits, adivasis and other downtrodden sections. However, of late, the extremist groups had been making inroads into this traditional Congress bastion. The party leadership felt that only a dedicated political arm would be able to arrest the growth of political rivals and regain the stronghold.
The first state level leadership training camp of the adivasi congress was held on 29th and 30th october 2005 at Thirunelli, wayanad. Later they conducted several seminars and workshops to empower Adivasi community and thus enabled them to achieve their fair share of representation in the political spectrum.
Another major initiative of organization was the membership campaign conducted throughout the state. The organization has developed a strong organizational network with active district, Block, Mandalam, Ooru committee’s in the adivasi belts. Adivasi congress has been intervening very effectively in issues of concern for the adivasi community. Adivasi congress’s agitations and protests to implement the forest right act in the state enacted by the UPA government received administration from various corners of sections of Kerala society.
